What is a Mom and Pop Business
"Mom-and-pop" is a colloquial term used to describe a small, family-owned, or independent business. Mom-and-pop stores are often operations that struggle to compete with more substantial establishments, such as big-box retailers, who generally boast more buying power than smaller players. What is a business?
1. A local, family owned, and operated business.
The business may have multiple locations but is restricted to the state in which it is registered (i.e. if it's registered in North Carolina it must not have any locations outside of the state).
2. Is a small business according to the Small Business Administration. A small business is defined as an independent business with fewer than 500 employees.
